Description

Ghost bamboo is a large ornamental bamboo featuring powdery white grey culms and big tropical leaves. Ghost bamboo will naturally grow up to 8-12 metres in height and can be easily trimmed down in height if need be. Keep in mind it is a beautiful canopy shaped bamboo, so trimming it too short can impact the integrity of its shape.

It has a natural wide canopy shape, meaning the top is much wider then the footprint, similar to a big tree. In shady positions it tends to have minimal branching down low, but in full sun can be bushy from about 1mtr upwards. The natural footprint size of the clump is 2mtrs with the canopy spreading up to 4-6mtrs wide outwards. This wonderful species can be planted into narrower garden beds or maintained smaller to suit your needs, down to a minimum of 1mtr. Plant as a single feature or a dense screening solution. Planted closer together, they will grow more upright.

Clumping bamboo grow circular, so plant them the same distance apart as the width you have available. Eg. if your planting trench is 1.2mtrs wide, you would plant them 1.2mtrs apart to form a dense screen. The narrower the space, the closer you plant the bamboo together. Ghost bamboo is incredibly quick growing, and can be fully grown in 3-4 years if established well. Imagine a tree growing that fast! Or achieve quicker growth if you purchase more established sizes! It is low maintenance and extremely drought tolerant once established. It is also salt tolerant!

Follow our bamboo planting guide (provided with your purchase) to achieve the best results. The guides are helpful and easy to follow, and assist you in achieving the best results in the shortest amount of time. Most of the effort in growing your bamboos is preparation and the first few months after planting.
